Road Safety
Road safety. A presentation by Aiman Zhafri, Syarifah Nazurah and Siti Ayu Bistari.
Teacher's Note:
The teaching strategy that suitable for this segment is Whole Group teaching, proposed by Barnes (2001). Students will be exposed to the video as a whole class. After watching the story in the video, the teacher will explain the importance of road safety and asks several questions to generate students’ thinking (e.g.: what will happen if you cross the road without looking left and right?). Here, the students will have the chance to talk about what they feel and express their ideas and opinions. They will also get the chance to ask about the things that they do not understand to the teacher. Therefore, all students will have equal learning opportunities.

makebelieve comix
http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/
This is one more Web 2.0 application that we found very interesting to be used as teaching resources. It is an application to create a simple comic strips. Therefore, teacher can use it to teach English for example. It is quite challenging to use at first as we are not familiar with the features. However, as we explore the tool more, it becomes easier and we enjoyed creating the comic strips using this application. It has various characters and motion which might be the main attraction to the students. It is quite frustrating that we cannot change the colours of the characters but we can change the background colour. This application can be used to stimulate students' creativity.
Happy trying. =)

puzzle maker
This is another fantastic, awesome, wonderful tool, that enables us to create crossword puzzles.
It's as simple as ABC. It would be a handy tool for us to create interesting activities for our future wonderful, lovely kids. No membership required.

Video at Animoto
The advantages of using this application is it is easy to use.
However, students have to sign up to use the application.
On the bright side, the finished project would be sent to their email,
so it is easy to keep the files immediately, even if they don't have memory stick or pendrive to keep the files.
This is very convenient as they can view the videos anywhere as long as they get accessed to the internet.
Besides, they don't have to keep the browser open, while the video is being processed.
This is a simple example made by us. (e & s association)
visual thesaurus
http://www.visualthesaurus.com/?vt
It's an application that enables us to explore words with similar meaning.
It's interactive and engaging whereby students could enrich their vocabulary.
This would be a useful instructional tool in an English class. However, users have to sign up for further utilization of this tool.

Tikatok by Mun Ting
The level of difficulty of the storybooks ranges from prep to secondary schools. Tikatok teaches and educates students on the features in a book for standardized publication. Students can add their own images to go with their stories.
This website is a good way of teaching basic literacy and to get students interested in creative writing.
The downside of this programme is that you'll have to sign up (it's free) to use the facilities in the site. Teachers using this programme could perhaps create a communal username and password for the classroom so that students could share their stories with their friends.

wordle
is an application for making word clouds. Students can enter a group of words and wordle will create a word cloud that arranges the words in appealing formats. The intensity of the words is controlled by the frequency of the occurrence of that word. The students can manipulate the font, colours, layout and backgrounds to create visually appealing charts.
Map maker
Map maker can be used to teach Geography by creating a map of places. Teacher may choose the countries that she wants to teach. The Map Maker will highlight the country automatically. Then, teacher may ask students to label the countries. In this way, students learn to recognise countries around the world on the map.
The disadvantage of using this application is that we can only use one colour to highlight the countries on the map.
You may visit Map Maker on Big Huge Labs.
E-learning Web 2.0 Tools and Applications: bubbl.us
In the class today, we have learnt about a few web 2.0 applications that are useful for teachers to make the teaching and learning process more interesting and engaging.
Thus, we have tried the bubbl.us applications. It is an open source website where teachers and students can use to produce mind maps. It is very convenient to use as the software will arrange all those shapes and expand the mind maps for us unlike microsoft words where we have to create and arrange the 'links' ourselves. All we need to do is we just click at the 'bubble' icon and it will create a 'new child balloon' whereever we wish. If we have mistakenly put the 'balloon', we can just easily click at the 'x' icon and it will be deleted. Very simple, right?
Another interesting feature about this application is we can adjust the position of the whole mind map easily by just stretching or moving the 'string' of the mind map. We can also change the colour of the balloons by just clicking on the 'colour' icon. There are a whole range of colours that can be chose from which will fascinate the children.
Thus, this application is a brilliant alternative for doing mind map instead of using microsoft word as it saves a lot of time. HAPPY TRYING! =)

of meeting pinkrain, iMovie and Windows Movie Maker
i created this blog using an admin account, which is under the username, digitalmediaineducation. since i have my own google account and username, which is pinkrain, i find it easier to manage 2 blogs using the same name. so, if you need any help , or any information about this blog, u can get through me using the digitalmediaineducation or pinkrain account or easily just by posting your questions or anything to the comments section.
thanks to Paula, who uploaded two videos of me n the hari raya. the video was taken with a plain green background. Shaun n Paula edited it using iMovie, to give it special touch, by adding the kitchen background and the klcc background.
to get more information on how to use the iMovie application, click here.
i know that most of the malaysian students are using windows, so, do not worry, because u can still use windows movie maker to edit videos like that.

Syarifa Master Chef
Web 2.0 in our Classrooms
thank you so much to the beautiful Syarifa Abd Khalib who took up my challenge and created this blog.
Syarifa is the creator and owner of this blog and will be able to maintain it, promote it and invite fellow teachers to help build the blog when you return to Malaysia. Of course, I will also be there to answer your questions and suggest new ideas as I learn of them!
This is your chance to work together as a creative community to share and build a really amazing body of knowledge for you all to share -even though you will be separated by great distance when you all begin your exciting careers as teachers.
This weeks lecture is on web 2.0 in the classrooms and you will all have the opportunity to explore and play with some of the great tools available. I will show you a few of my favourites to get you started ... but then it is your turn to choose web 2.0 applications from my list or find ideas have never heard of - explore their capabilities and then write a short review of some of their educational uses along with a couple of screen captures.
It will be a great night where we all share the research and then also have this blog as a permanent record of our shared learnings.I chose Google as the blogsite because I believe it will be with us for many years to come.
Our Digital Media For Teachers Research Blog will be something really inspiring to share with all your colleagues in Malaysia.
Just to get us started I will upload all the fabulous projects you have completed in our workshops for you to enjoy!
Please comment on each other's work ...as we all appreciate words of praise and encouragement as well as suggestions to add something extra or special to our work!
Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night!
cheers Paula
